Hey all, I hope this message finds you well! I want to provide a bit of a heads-up on some changes occurring at Brulosophy, some of which many of you may find rather shocking. This website is young, I only started it a year and a couple weeks ago, relative to other more established and polished blogs, this is just a baby. My whole goal in starting Brulosophy was to provide a place for me to blow-hard about the silly experiments I do, fully assuming no one would be all that interested. Boy, was I wrong. What started as a little side-project has grown faster than I could ever have imagined, each month bringing more and more readers, people reaching out to thank me for basically making (and drinking) a bunch of beer. It’s been humbling, it’s been fun, and it has opened doors I never thought possible. And now, for the big announcement:
Introoooooducing the newest associate director of experimental brewing for Miller/Coors– me!
Just kidding. Not about the the first part– folks really have been amazing, Brulosophy is getting read by quite a few people, and I’m truly humbled by everyone’s support and encouragement. But there was no job offer, I’m still doing the same old shit as usual.
Brulosophy is making one cool change, which could potentially lead to more cool changes– 3 great guys have agreed to regularly contribute by reporting on xBmts they perform using the same methodology and process as me! We’re currently working on more formal background and bio articles for each member of The Brü Crew, at which point their identities will be revealed. I’m very excited about this!

Since the end of the first Teespring campaign in January, I’ve been contacted by a number of folks asking when I might do it again. While I was planning on holding off for a couple more months, I’ve decided to go ahead and run another campaign, it starts today and ends in 2 weeks. While the general design is similar, a few minor changes have been made, plus we added options for women’s shirts and a color other than black. The hoodie option will remain available as well. Again, this campaign is time-limited, ending 2 weeks from today on March 23, 2015, and we will only receive our shirts if we reach our goal. If you want one, don’t hesitate, reserve yours now!
| ANOTHER SURVEY… |
Finally, I made another much more comprehensive survey as a follow-up to my previous article, A Portrait of The Modern Homebrewer, I’d really appreciate if you’d take the time to complete it. This time around, I included more demographic and detailed questions, the idea being to get a clearer picture of what today’s homebrewers look like. Your responses are 100% anonymous, I don’t even ask for a name, and the results will be shared in a future article on Brulosophy.

I’ll be attending my first NHC this year and I couldn’t be more excited, especially since my buddy from the Five Blades Brewing blog is giving a talk on the interesting topic of sour mashing! I love meeting new people, I’ve already heard from a few who are also attending and would like to meet up. At this point, I don’t have any set plans, but I’m totally open to setting aside some time to hangout. I’m pretty boring, but I hear I make interesting body gestures the more beer I drink. If I see you wearing a Brulosophy shirt, expect to get tackled… or a hug, depending on my “mood.”
Cheers!

Great news about the expanded team. I just hope that you will keep yourself firmly at the wheel as editor, making sure that all articles posted reflect your focus on both the practical and scientific. You seem to have a very good sense of what this means (at least what I want it to mean), and I think it would be difficult to trust that vision to anyone else (until they develop their own track record).
Absolutely! Thanks for the continued support, I trust the addition will only serve to make Brulosophy better. Cheers!
Interesting body gestures is pretty accurate….. And I can’t wait!!!
I’ll be brewing bare-chested until I receive my hoodie. Fingers crossed that the campaign succeeds, otherwise I’ll be in for some hard times.
While it hasn’t quite “succeeded” yet, we’ve sold enough to guarantee everyone gets what they reserved. Yahoo!
For Gambrinus’s sake, that’s great! I’ll get my brewdie! 😀
I love Gambrinus! You affiliated?
Haha, no, in no way affiliated to one of the dozen companies using Gambrinus’s name! I just think that, as beerlievers, our rightful deity should be Gambrinus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambrinus). Cheers!
I have a suggestion for the yeast harvesting question in your survey. You should include an option for those who slant their own cultures. It might be interesting to see how many do this.
This is something I started this year.
Damn, that would be very interesting… now that it’s already received nearly 100 responses, it’s probably best to leave it alone. Urgh!
Your blog has reinvigorated my interest in homebrewing just about the time I was ready to do all grain. Thanks!
Hey, your buddy sounds like a pretty cool and interesting dude! Seems like everyone should go check him out at NHC 😉
I’ll add my two cents and say that the whole reason I was totally captivated by your blog was because of the way you write. Hopefully the additional of other members won’t augment that too much.
But in any case….keep BRUing!
I trust you won’t be disappointed, I’ll be heavily influential in the writing each article. Cheers!
There are quite a few topics on the last page where the three options (Agree//Disagree/Don’t Know) didn’t work for me… there should have been a “It Depends”… I will always secondary a sour or for wood, but I never secondary a “normal” beer. A couple others also hit me like that.
Oh, for sure. The purpose of those last few questions was to gather a very (very) general idea of what homebrewers think. I agree, for many of the questions, “it depends” is my thought as well, we just weren’t looking to get that specific. This will definitely be discussed (qualified?) when writing the results article. Cheers!
I’m a regular reader for the great information and techniques. But for the sake of my eyes, please go easy on the animated GIFs. The one up top almost gave me a seizure. 😉 Kids and dogs are better.
It’s just a phase, it too shall pass.
Hi, I’m happy to support your excellent work. I have a request though. Preamble: While I work on mail processing machines, I listen to podcasts (primarily basic brewing) my iPod wire doesn’t get tangled with the wires bearing and Doo-Dads when I put my iPod in my Postal Service T-shirt pocket. Here’s the request: can you design a shirt that has pocket? That way I’ll be able to sport your Brulosophy shirt more often. Thanks again got your great blog. Gregory Horwitz
Ha! I actually never thought of that and with Teespring, I’m not sure I even have that option. I’ll have a look for future campaigns!
I look forward to seeing what develops.
Prost!
