Things continue to evolve here at Brülosophy, sometimes at a pace that’s difficult to keep up with, but in the end it always feels very worthwhile. I feel it’s only fair to keep those spurring this evolution up to date on what’s going and where things are headed.

Brülosophy t-shirts are finally available on a consistent basis! This has been something I’ve been trying to figure out for over a year, so I’m pretty stoked about it. You can now order any of our designs in various colors, sizes, and fit from Amazon with free Prime shipping!
I just received the first shirt I ordered for myself on Sunday (it’s Wednesday), it came out fantastic! I’ve been looking into a couple other branded items as well, though I’m still trying to hammer out all the details.

I want to take this opportunity to again thank those who consistently use our affiliate links and deal with the ads on the site. It’s not ideal, and as much as I wish I could afford to do this without them, it’s just not possible. All of us contributors spend many hours per week brewing, packaging, and writing about beers we ultimately end up giving most of away. This isn’t a complaint! I view the fact we’ve been able to regularly provide the content we do as a testament to the support of our readers!
I’ve mentioned Patreon before, but I’ve a better grasp of it now and think it’s a really cool way for people to support Brülosophy while getting something neat in return.
Patreon is a platform that allows people to set a recurring monthly contribution to support projects they love in exchange for unique rewards. It’s sort of like traditional crowd-funding except the recurring part, which means the contributions are generally less, as low as $1.00 per month. And the rewards recur as well! So far, patrons have received exclusive discounts at Love2Brew.com, joined in on private video chats with special guests including John Palmer, Drew Beechum, and Niko Lukoff, and been granted access to previously unpublished contributor recipes. | Upcoming Events |
Brülosophy contributors will be attending a few different events in the next few months, here’s what we’ve got coming up:
TCHOPS Homebrew Club Visit
I’ll be popping into the monthly TCHOPS homebrew club meeting in Visalia, CA this Sunday, 9/18/16, from 1 – 3 PM to chat with homebrewers and collect some xBmt data. If you’re in the area, come on out and say hi, it’s sure to be a good time.
Hop Harvest with Hopsteiner in Yakima, WA
I’m looking forward to hanging with Hopsteiner and friends September 23-24 to check out their hop harvest. I’m not totally sure what the agenda looks like, but I’m sure it will include sampling beers at local breweries. If you’ll be around the Yakima, WA area and want to meet up, shoot me an email!
Great American Beer Festival
Brülosophy contributors Jake Huolihan and Matt Waldron will both be attending GABF this October and are sure to have some interesting things up their sleeves. If you’ll be there too, don’t be afraid to say hello or engage them in nerdy beer talk, just look for the dorks sporting snazzy Brülosophy duds.
Bloatarians Homebrew Club Visit
Malcolm will be attending an upcoming Bloatarian Brewing League meeting in the near future where he’ll chat about exBEERiments and likely collect some data. If you’re in the Cincinnati, OH area, keep your eyes on the Bloatarian events calendar for updates regarding a specific date.
New Zealand Homebrewers Conference 2017
I’ll be attending and speaking at the 2nd annual New Zealand Homebrewers Conference from March 24-26 in Nelson, NZ. Based on what I’ve heard about last year’s conference, this is an epic event filled with good people, good beer, and good times. If you’re a homebrewing Kiwi, be sure to add NZHC to your calendar!
Homebrew Con 2017 in Minneapolis, MN
I know, it’s a ways off, but it never hurts to plan early. Brülosophy will definitely be attending HBC 2017, likely collecting xBmt data and potentially giving another talk– we’ve already planned what we think is a pretty unique topic for submission. Seriously, bite the bullet, start planning (and saving up) now, you don’t want to miss this!
| Where We’re Headed |
Last Monday, we published our 100th exBEERiment. This milestone seemed unimaginable just a couple years ago, and yet here we are today, xBmt #101 ready to be published and even more in the chamber. Crazy.
Thinking about the future of Brülosophy leaves me with mixed feelings– anticipation to continue learning new things about brewing and sharing it with people who care, but also a slight sense of pressure to keep it up… it requires a lot of work! Some might view this as a sign that I’m perhaps over-invested and should take a step back. But that’s not me. I’m more motivated than ever and have no plans to stop anytime soon, in fact, I’ve got a list of interesting ideas I think people would really enjoy. Of course, implementing these ideas will require more resources, which is something I’ve been taking into consideration lately. Nothing that will change the focus of the site, I promise, just allow us to do more fun stuff. This might include adding more contributors, increasing sponsorship/advertising opportunities, and potentially partnering with well established organizations. Whatever it is, the goal will always be to provide interesting brewing and beer related content in an entertaining manner!
That’s about it for now! As always, feel free to ask questions or share your thoughts in the comments section below. And again, thanks for all of the support, it’s very much appreciated. Cheers!

You guys ever going to do a sweet Brülosophy hat? I’ve got tons of shirts, but I could always use another hat.
That’s the first “other idea” on the list, I have it all picked out (mesh back), but I just can’t figure out a good packaging and shipping solution.
Awesome! Let me know, I’ll be first in line for a couple of those! Las time I got a basic brewers hat sent to.me it was just in a shipping packet kind of flattened out. Pulled back into shape fine after a couple days.
I have a friend who has a hat company… he could probably handle everything for you. hit me up on fb pm if you want details.
Just pledged on Patreon. Sorry, only $1 a month. This is the best brewing blog out there and while I’m normally very reluctant to open my wallet for stuff on the internet, this site is definitely worth it. Keep up the good work!
Thank you!!!
Hoping to see a future xbeeriment using invert sugar, I’ve made several English bitters with invert sugar and it seems to add alcohol, flavor, and complexity. Not sure how this ingredient could translate into a triangle test but I’ll leave it to the experts (you all) to figure that out.
Have you seen this xBmt yet?

Ha, no I had not! Very cool comparison.
My recipe for invert sugar is different from yours. I start with spring water and add a pound of raw sugar for each pint of water. As the sugar dissolves I add 1/4 tsp of citric acid per pound of sugar, heat to 240 degrees F, then hold it there for 20-30 minutes. SRM is usually about 25. It is delicious on French toast!
Is there any way to get one of those tshirts outside the USA? Amazon.com does not seem to ship to the UK.
Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find a way to allow international purchases. I’ll keep looking into it!
“New Zealand Homebrewers Conference 2017”
I didn’t realise Mike had roped you in?
Will you be hanging round NZ for long, or just a flying visit?
My wife and I plan to head over a week or so before the conference starts, making an initial stop in Sydney (don’t scoff) for a few days before flying into NZ. We’re thinking of flying into Wellington then driving down to Nelson. My wife isn’t into the whole brewing/beer thing and will likely be paling around with a friend of ours who lives in Petone.
Haha, I’ll refrain from making Jokes about Australia…..
Wellington is a great idea, you’ll be able to get your fill of Craft beer, while seeing nice scenery etc. (Welly is craft beer heaven) If you head north about an hour, you can get into some wineries as well.
Wellington to Nelson is a bit more difficult (Wellington to Picton by ferry, then 1-1.5 hours drive to Nelson) Marlborough wine region is also an hour from Picton, if your wife is into that? (Plenty of Sauvignon Blanc)
I guess we’ll catch you in Nelson next year (If you decide to travel round, Christchurch is a good place to visit. (Theres some Earthquake stuff around)
If you do get in touch.
Catch you then 🙂

“This item does not ship to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. ” 🙁
🙁
How about sweet Brülosophy-logo taster glasses like in your XBMTS????
Once I figure out a good way to package and ship them…
